There are links to Equifax, Transunion, and Experian. There is no cost to doing so. The freeze prevents checking of your credit without your authorization. It does not interfere with your use of credit. You can unfreeze your credit to allow checking of it and then the freeze goes back on automatically. You set the amount of time your credit is unfrozen.
Freezing your credit protects you from Identity Theft during your life.
A credit freeze, also known as a security freeze, is a powerful tool to protect yourself from identity theft and credit fraud.
Key benefits of a credit freeze include:
Preventing New Accounts in Your Name: A credit freeze restricts access to your credit report, making it difficult or impossible for lenders to check your credit history and open new accounts in your name. Since most businesses require a credit check before approving credit, this significantly reduces the chances of identity thieves taking out loans or credit cards in your name.
Protection Against Identity Theft and Financial Fraud: By blocking access to your credit report, a credit freeze helps protect your personal information from being used fraudulently to open new accounts. It adds a crucial layer of security, especially if your information has been compromised in a data breach or if you suspect identity theft.
Peace of Mind: Knowing your credit report is secure can provide peace of mind, especially in today’s digital age with increased concerns about data breaches and identity theft.
It’s Free: Federal law requires credit bureaus to offer free credit freezes and unfreezes to consumers.
Doesn’t Affect Your Credit Score: Placing a credit freeze doesn’t negatively impact your credit score. You can still check your credit reports and scores even while your credit is frozen.
You’re in Control: You have the ability to temporarily lift (thaw) the freeze when you need to apply for new credit, like a loan or credit card, and then refreeze it afterward.
In essence, a credit freeze acts as a padlock on your credit information, making it significantly harder for identity thieves to commit fraud in your name.
Freezing your credit during your life also protects your Estate after you die because your credit stays frozen. Even if your Estate Administrator doesn’t do a Notice of Death to the credit bureaus, scammers won’t be able to check your credit when you are gone and make a false credit card in your name and charge thousands of dollars on the account.
I had a client whose father had passed three years prior who received a letter from a collection agency with thousands of dollars of Visa charges made about 18 months prior. It was annoying for my client to receive the letter regarding obviously fraudulent charges. I told my client it was important for me to respond because the collection agency likely thought that he made the fraudulent charges, so he needed to make it clear that was not the case.

I am an experienced solo estate planning, debtor bankruptcy, and real estate attorney. At my law firm in Bellevue, Washington between Eastgate and Factoria, I do things a little differently. I am passionate about helping people take control of their lives.
One of my primary practice areas is urgent (bankruptcy), and the other is important, but not urgent (estate planning). Not letting the urgent crowd out the important is key. I have made a choice to include the positive difference I make in the life of each client in how I calculate profit. This means I have higher job satisfaction, and happy clients who confidently give referrals.
My goal is that my work is transformative for people during a challenging time in their lives. At Mulvaney Law Offices, PLLC (MLO), you will not find a gatekeeper. There are no forgotten cases hiding on an associate’s cluttered desk. It’s just me, working with each one of my clients one-on-one to resolve their legal concerns as favorably as possible.
As your lawyer, I will personally handle every aspect of your case. My office is not a factory churning out thousands of filings per year, where each case matters little. You, and your case, matter to me. You can see what clients have said about me, and leave your own reviews at these links.
